Sunshine Coast, 1998 to present
I show team leaders, professionals, and front-line staff how to respond well to difficult customers and co-workers, develop great teams, and work more effectively with challenging clients. I do this through my speaking engagements, coaching programs, and on-line resources.
Manager of Counselling Services
Lifeline Sunshine Coast, 1994-1998
Managed a range of programs including face-to-face counselling, telephone counselling, family mediation, and mental health education. Also conducted training programs, provided clinical supervision, and managed my own relationship counselling caseload.
Regional Co-ordinator HIV / AIDS Program
Queensland Health, Sunshine Coast Health Region, 1992-1994
Co-ordinated government and community programs in the prevention and treatment of HIV / AIDS, conducted education programs, and facilitated funding of services.
Counsellor and Trainer
Lifeline Sunshine Coast, 1990-1992
Planned and conducted training programs for both telephone-based and face-to-face counselling staff, managed my own counselling caseload, and conducted therapeutic groups.
Drug Counsellor
Queensland Health, Sunshine Coast Health Region, 1986-1990
Provided counselling for Injecting Drug Users, conducted education programs, and undertook community development projects seeking to prevent the transmission of HIV / AIDS.
Career achievements
- In Feb. 2009, I achieved recognition as a Professional Member of the National Speakers' Association of Australia. This accreditation recognises expertise, enterprise and eloquence as a professional speaker and is held by only 46 other people in Australia.
- During 2000 - 2008, have authored two books for private practitioners and 15 training programs for managers, helping professionals, and front-line staff. Each year, I speak at over 50 conferences, seminars, and workplaces throughout Australia.
- During 1998 to 2009, wrote a weekly column on personal and workplace relationships for the Sunshine Coast Daily, which led to columns in other regional newspapers, professional journals, and a weekly radio interview.
- During 1994 to 1998, secured over $1 000 000 worth of funding for new programs while employed at Lifeline Sunshine Coast and recruited, managed, and supported the associated staff.
- In 1990, established the Sunshine Coast Intravenous AIDS Association (now QuIHN) which conducts a range of health education and harm minimisation programs for injecting drug users.
